In Oklahoma, death records have been kept since 1917. The office of the Vital Records Services manages the Oklahoma death records.

Only immediate family members are allowed to obtain a copy of the document. One will be asked for their personal information as well as their reason and relationship to the name on the record.

The request can be done in a number of ways. A mail request can be sent to the office of the Vital Records Services. The request should contain a self addressed stamped envelope. The death certificate is then obtained days after it has been filed. One can go to the office and request the record from there. The death certificate can be obtained after an hour or two. The search has been made faster with the use of the Internet. The record can be requested at home or anywhere as long as there is internet connection.

The use of the Internet has revolutionized the management of information. The good thing about using the Internet to obtain a copy of the death certificate is that it eliminates the need to drive and fall in line at the office just to get a copy of the record. One can now obtain death records by typing in the last name of the individual on the search bar of a certain website. There are websites that can provide a free service but the results may not be as accurate as those from a paid search. One has to be careful when selecting a provider to avoid being scammed online.
