The Advantages Of Renting Calgary Apartments Rather Than Buying

By Gloria J Tunnell

Living in one of the many available Calgary apartments can offer several advantages over home ownership, for many different people. Though these benefits may not appeal to everyone, they are certainly something to consider before you make the huge investment that buying a first home tends to be.

First of all, rentals allow you the chance to move whenever you want, wherever you want. What this means to you is the freedom to move across the country to be with your significant other or take on the job of lifetime, without having to deal with selling your home or leasing it out to a stranger. Freedom is crucial, especially early in life, when you haven't quite figured out where you want to end up.

Second, home ownership entails a lot of responsibility, often accompanied by a whole lot of stress. When the dishwasher short circuits in your apartment you can just phone the maintenance department, but if it happens in a place you own you are the one who has to fix it or have it replaced, out of your own pocket.

Though not always, apartments are pretty frequently developed in areas that are central to conveniences like the mall and major universities. Though there are a few urban houses in Calgary, for the most part they are out in the suburbs or in nearby rural areas. Although the solitude of rural and suburban life can be appealing, one must take into account the work of having to drive forty minutes for a grocery store, as well as the amount of gasoline that it requires.

Finally, when you decide to live in an apartment it's highly unlikely that you will have a lawn to tend to, maybe a patch of grass but little beyond that. Home ownership on the other hand, typically accompanies a large plot of lawn that you have to maintain on a constant basis. This means raking the leaves, shoveling snow, cutting the grass, and more. A lot of people would simply rather do without the hassle of having to care for a yard after they get home from working forty or fifty hours a week, not to mention time spent commuting.

Calgary apartments can be a great option for many people, for several reasons. Though there is absolutely nothing wrong with home ownership, waiting for the right time in life is crucial. To be honest, some lifestyles just do not match up with home ownership, which is perfectly alright.
