The iPhone 5 Release Date: A Collection of The Rumors and Leaks

By Fausto Mendez

Rumours, analyst speculation and information leaks pertaining to the iPhone 5 tormented the Web long before the iPhone 4S hit stores, so there's a lot of stuff out there to process, and only some of it's good info. Today, we'll have a quick look at the prevailing state of the iPhone-5 rumour factory, and we'll clear out the BS to target the details most likely to be accurate.

First of all, you're most likely wondering when this thing will eventually hit stores. Apple historically releases new hardware about once each year in the majority of its product categories, especially those that sell really well. In the case of the iPhone, it's a hot item, so it's safe to say that we shall see a new iPhone appear sometime this year.

Since the iPhone 4S hit stores in October, we'll probably see the iPhone 5 appear in the Autumn also , but several good sources have recommended a late Summer release. As a consequence, Aug and Sep are also likely. We do not think Apple would wait to launch the new IPhone too late into year in order maximise sales during the vacation season, so Nov and December are very unlikely launch months.

We've also read plenty about the iPhone 5's potential featuers, and we've got to say that we are extremely skeptical about some of the stuff we've heard. To begin, we do not think Apple will increase the iPhone's display size, but if Apple does this, it will not be much bigger than the current size. A 4-inch display seems like the most likey size if an increase happens.

Next up, the new iPhone will problaby sport LTE connectivity out of the box. Considering the iPad 3 ships with LTE connectivity, we will not think of a reason that Apple would forestall this feature on future iPhones. Certainly, it's a feature on a rising number of handsets, and the technology looks to be prepared for Apple's approval if it's already on the iPad.
