By Bob Beckman

If an individual wants the medical course, but does not desire to interact directly with patients, then often becoming a medical laboratory technician is a reasonable path for someone. Thus, even though these technicians may be defined to as microscope nerds, they render a very advantageous practice in medicine, and that is what phlebotomy schools discuss. After all a phlebotomist will loyally, precisely, and effectively give analysis that may preserve lives, or determine different life-threatening ailments.

It may be difficult to imagine just how important the job is, unless one has come into direct contact with a phlebotomist, but realizing that over 75% of all diagnoses are made through the use of the medical laboratory technician, does bring the enormity of the job to a more easily and readily understood level.

It is after all a profession that is not only highly respected but also greatly fulfilling, even though the phlebotomist often has very restricted patient interaction, other than perhaps the actual extracting of blood examples from the patient.

In addition to diagnostics, many phlebotomists identify the general effectiveness of newly discovered drugs often on a daily basis. Generally, without phlebotomists it would be unreachable to determine any drugs effectiveness without the different tests that are performed in a laboratory.

Thus far, phlebotomists are extremely advantageous for their specific function with diseases, However there are more functions for phlebotomists, such as forensic science, crime scene investigation, the marketing as well as the sales of lab equipment, not to include medical development. Henceforth, it is possible to say that phlebotomy is a progressing field that promises to be in need even more in the future.

The schooling will of course include the various phlebotomy techniques, advanced knowledge of the circulatory system, various anatomical knowledge as well as physiology of course. Leaning needle techniques is exceedingly important especially if taking blood samples from patients is part of the job description. Attaining certification is necessary in many states, but not all.

As can be imagined, a phlebotomy must also be highly skilled in creating great patient rapport if interacting with patients, all manner of critical medical safety practices and even though it stands to reason learning the acceptable and correct processes of fixing the records. Yet, education is highly important when interacting with life dangerous waste containers and also how to deal with bio hazardous-spill kits, tourniquets, blood-culture bottles, vacuum tubes and the many dermal puncture devices.

In addition, there are many professions available. For example, one may become a lab technician dealing with hematology, microbiology, blood banking, virology, immunology or even cytotechnology, which deals meticulously in cell study in cancer analysis for instance.

Overall, phlebotomy schools tackle biology, immunology, embryology, anatomy, physiology, endocrinology, histology as well as chemistry, depending on the particular course of study a student aspires to follow. Regardless of what field that student desires to specialize in, they will seek that it is all greatly interesting and filled with great individuals because those who select this field in their lives are in specific thoughtful, kind and very humanely driven! There are no grade requirements for this field.
