Expert Tips On Decorating A Christmas Tree

By Giselle Taylor

A beautifully done christmas tree is a sight to behold and a joy to have in a home. Hanging up the lights and ornaments is an exciting ritual for many children and continues to be to this day. Many make it a habit to look for christmas tree decorating ideas every year. However you decide, here are some great tips on decorating a christmas tree you can use this season.

Alright then, it's time to begin and where better to start than with the christmas tree. You can choose between an artificial tree and a live fir tree. If you prefer the latter, purchase one with healthy looking needles and a sturdy trunk in your local christmas tree store. Tie it carefully on the roof or your car or wrap it with blankets on the back seat. Fluff it up when you bring it down if the needles get flattened in transit.

Have the tree pruned, washed and dried before you bring it inside your home. Set it up in a spot where it will be showcased best to your friends and guests like the living room or by the foyer. Make sure you place it near a wall socket but far enough that you can walk its circumference comfortably. If you want, you can move it farther against the wall when you're done decorating.

Choose a theme and a color palette and have your tree adhere to these parameters as well. The first decorations you will hang up are the lights. Mini white lights are a classic which go well with anything but take your pick among the different kinds available in the market today. Begin with the lowest set of branches, coiling the strand of lights around the trunk and limbs evenly and work your way upwards.

The next thing we hang up are the garlands. The more holiday looking the better. Many have used stringed popcorn and cranberries to wrap around the tree but unless you are sure your home is without rodents and bugs; it might be better to go the safer route and choose the inedible decorations. Brightly colored tinsel is always a popular choice and a personal favorite of mine.

Let's get on to the accessories. Again, this is largely dependent on the motif you are going for this year. Use velvet, lace and layers of beads and pearls for the elegant and classic holiday look. If you want the rustic feel of the country, tie checkered lined fabrics on the boughs of the tree and hang wooden ornaments on. Push the envelope with a punk rock theme and load up with neon colored trimmings. Remember, make it personal and unique-this is the core of exciting christmas tree decorating ideas.

Finally, use christmas balls to fill in the left spaces in between the accessories and decorations. Mix and match different textures, sizes and styles to give depth to the tree. The more the merrier; only make sure these fillers are well spread out and your job is pretty much done.

Use these tips on decorating a christmas tree and expect a lot of compliments and delighted looks from your guests. More than anything, remember to be happy. It's Christmas-a season of hope and good cheer, enjoy!
